Does my child need music experience to join?
No. These workshops are beginner-friendly and do not require advanced music experience. As long as your child is interested in music, sound, creativity, or trying something new, they should be able to participate and enjoy the class.
Does my child need to bring an instrument?
No. Students do not need to bring an instrument. Any instruments, tools, or materials needed for the workshops will be provided.
For Sound Effects Studio, students may bring a small, safe object from home if they want to experiment with it for Foley sounds. This is completely optional. Please avoid anything valuable, breakable, messy, or too noisy outside of class.
What is Sound Effects Studio?
Sound Effects Studio is a creative workshop for students who enjoy movies, cartoons, games, acting, storytelling, or exploring how sounds are made.
Students will use everyday objects, instruments, and found sounds to create sound effects and simple music for a cartoon or silent film clip. They will learn how sound brings a scene to life while practicing timing, teamwork, and matching sounds to what is happening on screen.
Is Sound Effects Studio a good fit for my child?
Yes, especially if your child enjoys movies, animation, games, acting, storytelling, sound effects, or creative problem-solving. It is also a great option for students who may not want a traditional instrument-focused class but still enjoy music and sound.
What is Music Tech 101?
Music Tech 101 introduces students to how music is created using today’s tools. Students will explore music software, digital instruments, MIDI, and how traditional instruments can connect with technology.
They will learn beginner concepts like creating sounds, using digital tools, and combining instruments with a digital setup.
What is MIDI?
MIDI is a digital music language that lets instruments, like an electronic keyboard or drum pad, communicate with music software. It helps the computer understand what notes or rhythms to play, which means one instrument can create many different sounds, such as piano, drums, flute, bass, or electronic sounds.
Is Music Tech 101 a good fit for my child?
Yes, especially if your child likes experimenting with sounds, trying different instruments, using technology, or creating music in different ways. It is also a great starting point for students who may be interested in music production but are not sure where to begin.
